He teaches young flute students at the Association of Dominican Classical Artists’ Washington Heights Community Conservatory of Fine Arts. Also an active composer, Mr. Murphy has won awards from ASCAP, YoungArts, NextNotes, National Young Composers Challenge, Mata Jr., and the Chamber Music Society of Rochester [NY]. His works have been played by PubliQuartet, the Mivos Quartet, Tilt Brass, Mobius Percussion, the Kāj Ensemble, Manhattan Brass Quintet, and other ensembles. Mr. Murphy’s teachers are Mr. Michael Parloff (flute) and Dr. J. Mark Stambaugh (composition).
Jonah Murphy
Jonah Murphy is a graduate student studying flute and composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Awards include the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, the New York Flute Club Competition (first place), YoungArts, Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, International Virtuoso Competition, and (three times) the Lillian Fuchs Competition in chamber performance. Mr. Murphy has participated in the Texas Music Festival Orchestral Institute (summer 2022), Miami Music Festival (summer 2023), and Orford International Music Festival (summers 2014–2020), and has performed in masterclasses with Stefan Hoskuldsson, Nicholas Duchamp, Mark Sparks, Mindy Kaufman, Robert Langevin, Julien Beaudiment, Michael Cox, Jennifer Gunn, and others.
